Astrophysicist and unapologetic space nerd - Dr. Matt Agnew - has signed his first publishing deal with Allen & Unwin.

This will be Dr. Matt’s debut book. Dr Matt Agnew’s Guide to Life in Space (working title) will be a space and science themed non-fiction work aimed at younger audiences. Dr. Matt will share his enthusiasm for all things space related, as well as his insights as to what signs of life may exist beyond Earth.

Dr. Matt said: “Excited would be an understatement. I'm absolutely delighted to have signed a publishing deal with Allen & Unwin. Sharing my interest in science has been a passion of mine for years, and I'm genuinely humbled by the opportunity to be able to reach such a wide audience and engage with them about Earth, life and all things science. I hope that this book not only ignites the curiosity of our next generation of scientists, but gives people some real genuine 'Wow, that's cool!' moments, regardless of their pre-existing interest in space.”

Annette Barlow, Editor at Allen & Unwin said: “I am thrilled to be working with Dr Matt Agnew as he crafts what I hope will be the first of many fascinating, fun and accessible popular science books. Matt combines his passion for the marvellous, awe-inspiring and downright amazing world of science with his desire to communicate all of it to the non-scientist. With his background in artificial intelligence, engineering and astrophysics, Matt is the perfect science writer.”

David Wilson, Managing Partner at Watercooler Talent said: “Dr Matt is a born communicator who makes science not only accessible, but fun and entertaining too. I’ve seen how audiences lean in when speaks about the wonders of the universe. I expect this will be the first of many books from this very cool nerd.”

Dr. Matt is currently studying his Master Degree in Artificial Intelligence (Deakin University), and his existing qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Astrophysics (Swimburne University) and Bachelor of Science (Applied Mathematics Major) (The University of Western Australia).

The book will be due for release in 2022.
